The Goals of Our Curriculum:

The most important goal of our early childhood curriculum is to help children become enthusiastic learners. This means surrounding children with a rich learning environment that will encourage children to be creative explorers. Our goal is to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive learners. We are teaching them how to learn, not only in daycare or preschool, but all through their lives.

We have an adequate number of toys, equipment and furnishings for the licensed capacity. The toys, equipment and furnishings are age appropriate and there are sufficient numbers for rotation as well as for gross-motor activity in the playground area. Our programs offered are age and developmentally appropriate.

A daily program plan is posted outside each classroom and available to parents.

All children have outdoor activities (weather permitting) for at least two hours a day.

Children have a rest period and are provided with five meals/snacks a day that meet the requirement of Canada's Food Guide. Our carefully chosen meals are hot and nutritious and prepared on the premises. We believe that children should receive the appropriate intake of grain products, vegetables and fruits, milk products and meat and alternatives. Our menus are planned and posted in every classroom. Our centre is nut free and we encourage parents to follow this policy.

Our core Curriculum includes:

Language and Literature
Creative Arts
Music & Movement
Science & Discovery
Health, Safety & Nutrition
Social Activities & Values

Kindergarten 4 to 6 years: TOP

Full time and part time care is available. At our centre, children are in a safe environment they know and love, which makes learning more effective and fun.  Our kindergarten program is a comprehensive skill-based program, designed to prepare children for the first grade and success in school.  We want your child to enjoy and appreciate the educational process.  Lessons are tailored to meet your child’s individual needs and designed to give children opportunities to explore, question, communicate, and create in a fun, supportive environment.  A special feature our classrooms have is the individual attention in a small class size.

Holiday and Break Programs for children 6 to 12 years of age: TOP

In addition to regular programming at Over the Rainbow Children’s Centre, we offer special programs for holidays and school vacations. Many parents who have standing child care arrangements during regular school sessions, have special needs when school is out and their regular providers may not offer child care services. For those families, as well as our registered Rainbow families, we offer holiday and vacation care.

Most typically, the program offers a "sneak peak" of the upcoming summer program with lots of fun summer-like activities and special fun for all. Spring Break care is also available weekly or daily, depending on space availability.

  • Summer Vacation TOP

Over the Rainbow offers special summer camp programs. Each year we have a summer camp theme that features special activities and events for children up to age twelve in a summer day camp environment.
